Rams Hold Off Rutgers-Newark for Non-Conference Win

Newark, N.J. - After Farmingdale State took a 2-1 lead, Rutgers-Newark captured the fourth set before the Rams won the deciding fifth set, 15-13. Farmingdale State improved to 4-4 on the season, while the Scarlet Raiders fell to 2-1.

Tied 12-12 in the fifth set, the Rams took a one point lead on a Rutgers-Newark service error. After a Scarlet Raiders attack error set up match point, Rutgers-Newark again closed within one, 14-13, on a kill by sophomore Hannah Riede (Haworth, N.J.). Farmingdale State closed out the match as junior Amanda Masson (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded the kill off sophomore Maia Cadle-Hinton's (Huntington, N.Y.) pass.

Senior Sarah Palladino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the way for the Rams with 29 assists, 11 digs, five kills and a game-high four service aces. Cadle-Hinton tallied a team-leading 10 kills and seven blocks, while junior libero Francesca Calderon (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) added 21 digs. 

Freshman Karolina Kopacz (Rutherford, N.J.) recorded a game-high 17 kills and freshman Sue Riley (Rahway, N.J.) had 27 digs for the Scarlet Raiders.

Farmingdale State next will host Baruch in a non-conference match on Thursday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m.
