Volleyball Travels for Kean Cougar Classic

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team finished up a two-day event today at Kean University's Cougar Classic. The Rams went 1-3 at the tournament, defeating Centenary College on Friday night to open the tourney. Freshman Gina Giacalone (Hauppauge, N.Y.) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play over the four matches.

Against Centenary on Friday night, Farmingdale State took a thrilling 3-2 win (25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13) led by senior Sarah Palladino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with 21 assists, 13 kills, nine digs and five service aces. Sophomore Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) both talllied nine kills, while Giacalone finished with 16 assists.

In the second game on Friday, against Hunter, the Rams fell 3-0 (12-25, 14-25, 9-25). Palladino and junior Francesca Calderon (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) tabbed a team-high seven digs in the match.

On Saturday afternoon, Farmingdale State faced off against conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College and fell 3-1 (25-15, 18-25, 19-25, 22-25). Palladino finished with 16 kills and eight digs, while junior Megan Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) posted 27 assists and three service aces.

The final matchup was against host Kean and the Rams fell 25-20 and 25-19 in the first two sets and fell 25-11 in the final set for a 3-0 loss. Cadle-Hinton tallied a team-high seven kills, while Calderon had a team-high 10 digs.

The Rams now travel to face Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, September 9th at 7:00 p.m.
