Rams Volleyball Goes 2-1 to Open the Season

Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team opened the 2014 season at the USMMA Invitational this past weekend. The Rams finished the invite 2-1 and in second place.

On Friday night in the season opener, Farmingdale State defeated CCNY in a five-set match 3-2 (25-18, 25-17, 15-25, 20-25, 15-7). The Rams were led by sophomore middle blocker Barbara Wright (Farmingdale, N.Y.) who recorded a team-high 10 kills, while adding three service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Maia Cadle-Hinton (Huntington, N.Y.) pitched in with seven kills, while junior outside Karen Ulysse (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had six kills and a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Christina Hickey (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had a game-high four blocks in her Farmingdale State debut.

Against Merchant Marine, the Rams fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17). Junior libero Francesca Calderon (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) recorded 13 digs and junior outside hitter Kenia Peralta (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) had 10 digs as well.

In a three-set sweep of Brooklyn, Cadle-Hinton had a game-high nine kills, while junior setter Megan Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) tallied game-highs of 25 assists and four service aces. Calderon led the way with 10 digs for Farmingdale State.

The Rams will now travel to Union, N.J. for the Kean Cougar Classic on Friday, September 5th and Saturday, September 6th.
