Skyline Releases Fall Weekly Report #9

- Women's Tennis wins First-Ever Skyline Title; Signore and Sarmiento Named Players of the Week -


New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Fall weekly report #9 on Monday, October 28, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, women's tennis and women's volleyball.

Women's Tennis Update (12-2, 5-0 Skyline) - Full Report

The Farmingdale State women's tennis team defeated Purchase College on Saturday afternoon in the Skyline Championship to claim their first-ever conference title. The win marked the Rams eighth straight victory, as they improved to 12-2 overall, while the Panthers fell to 8-3.

Freshman Priscilla Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Tournament MVP for her play in the Playoffs. She went 2-0 at #2 singles and 2-0 at #1 doubles, as Farmingdale State posted victories over Mount Saint Mary (5-0) and Purchase (5-1). Signore notched a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Purchase on Oct. 26 in the title match.

The women will now await to play in the 2014 Division III NCAA Championships which are held in May.

Cross Country Update - Full Report

The Farmingdale State men's and women's cross country teams both finished sixth at the Skyline Conference Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.

For the men, freshman Jacob Kashani (Roslyn, N.Y.) led the team in 9th place with a time of 29:37.10. The women were led by senior Melissa Bonilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) in 19th individually with a time of 22:18.32.

The Rams will race next in the ECAC Championships on Saturday, November 9th at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I.

Women's Volleyball Update (12-21, 7-2 Skyline) - Full Report

Farmingdale State volleyball posted a 1-2 mark in three Skyline matches this week, falling to St. Joe's and Sage and defeating NYU-Poly 3-1.

Junior outside Sarah Palladino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline Player of the Week Honor Roll after leading the team with 33 kills over 3 games, along with 13 aces and 27 digs.

Next the Rams will travel to New Jersey City University on Saturday, November 2nd for matches against NJCU and Catholic. For the NJCU game at Noon, they will have Live Stats and Live Video. The Catholic game at 2:00 p.m. will have Live Stats HERE.

Men's Soccer Update (8-6-2, 4-2-2 Skyline) - Full Report

The men's soccer team went 1-0-1 this week, defeating St. Joe's, 4-2, on Thursday night before tying Sage, 0-0, in double-overtime on Saturday.

Sophomore midfielder Diego Sarmiento (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Player of the Week for the second time this season, after scoring a hat trick on Oct. 24. His hat trick lifted Farmingdale State past St. Joseph's-L.I., 4-2.

The Rams will wrap up regular-season play on Tuesday, October 29th at 8:30 p.m. against Mount Saint Vincent at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers, N.Y.

Women's Soccer Update (11-9, 7-1 Skyline) - Full Report

Farmingdale State went 0-2 this week, with a non-conference 2-0 loss to NYU and a conference loss to Mount Saint Mary, 2-0.

The women's soccer team finished 7-1 in Skyline Conference play and secured the #2 seed for the upcoming playoffs. They receive a Bye for the First Round on Saturday, November 2nd and will host a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, November 6th at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of #6 Purchase/#3 St. Joe's.
