2011 Women's Volleyball Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team finished the 2011 season with a 14-8 overall record including 5-4 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams defeated Old Westbury in the quarterfinals and eventually fell at Mount Saint Mary in the semifinal round of the playoffs.

Farmingdale State had three players receive All-Conference honors. Junior outside Holly Sahner (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and freshman setter Sarah Palladino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Skyline, while senior outside Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y.) received Second Team honors.

Sahner led the team in kills (262) and was second in digs (202), service aces (71) and blocks (27). Sahner finished atop the Skyline Conference in both kills and kills per set average (3.28). She was ranked seventh in Division III averaging 0.87 aces per set. Palladino, in her rookie season, finished second in the nation in service aces per set. She led the team and the conference with 101 aces and an impressive 1.26 aces per set average. Palladino also tallied 589 assists and 118 digs. Cunningham finished the season with 233 kills (2.91 kill per set average), 182 digs and 15 blocks.

Senior libero Jessica Zimmermann (Seaford, N.Y.) led the Rams with 273 digs, while senior opposite hitter Renee Milevoj (Bethpage, N.Y.) finished the year with 115 digs and 84 kills.

Farmingdale State will be returning 5-of-8 players for the 2012 season.
