Rams Win Five Set Match on Senior Night

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team won in five sets tonight, defeating Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury on Senior Night. Senior libero Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) played in her final home game for the Rams. The win snaps Farmingdale State's 12 game losing streak to improve their record to 6-15, 1-5 in the Skyline, while Old Westbury falls to 5-24, 1-6 Skyline.

The match was close as the Rams went up 1-0 after the first set with a 25-16 win, before Old Westbury responded with a 25-9 victory to tie the match 1-1. Farmingdale State answered with a 25-16 win and Old Westbury tied it 2-2 with another 25-16 win to send the match into a fifth and deciding 15-point set.

In the fifth set, Old Westbury took the momentum from their win to go up 5-0 and the Rams rallied back to a 6-3 score. Old Westbury took the score up to 12-9 and Farmingdale fought back to tie it at 12-12, before scoring three more points for the 15-13 victory.

Freshman outside Alyssa Siegel (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) and freshman outside Jessica Zimmerman (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) both finished with 8 kills apiece in the match. Zimmerman also had seven service aces. Freshman setter Shelby Martin (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) had 21 assists for the night.

Rokee had 19 digs in her final home game for the Rams. Over three seasons and 82 matches played to date, she has accumulated 819 digs, 89 kills and 62 service aces.

The Rams will now travel to Purchase on Saturday, October 25th for a Skyline Play Date. They will face Maritime at 10:00 a.m. and Purchase at Noon.
