Union, N.J. - Farmingdale State women's volleyball went 3-1 this past weekend in the Kean University Cougar Invitational, improving their overall record to 5-3. The Rams picked up wins over Old Westbury, Kean and New Rochelle.

On Friday, the Rams faced Skyline Conference rival Old Westbury, winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-17, falling in the third set 19-25 and coming back to win the fourth 25-20. Farmingdale State's freshman setter Shelby Martin (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) led the team with 18 assists and eight service aces, while freshman middle Dominique Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) led the team with nine kills.

St. Joseph's, another Conference opponent, was the second match of the night for the Rams, but they fell 3-0 in that match, falling 12-25, 13-25 and 13-25. Senior right side Cathryn McLean (Freeport, N.Y./Northport) led with seven kills and nine digs.

On Saturday afternoon, Farmingdale defeated host Kean University in five-set match. The Rams were behind 0-2 after losses of 15-25 and 17-25, but came back to win three straight (25-23, 25-22, 15-11) for the win. McLean led with 10 kills and 19 digs, while senior libero Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) also had 19 digs.

The last match was against New Rochelle and the Rams rolled to a 3-0 victory with scores of 25-17, 15-13 and 25-18. McLean tallied six kills, while Cunningham served up four service aces.

Farmingdale State will host their first home match this Thursday night, September 18th, at 7:00 p.m. against New Jersey City University.
