Volleyball Defeats Panthers but Falls to Centenary

Game One: Centenary - 3, Farmingdale State - 1 (25-20, 17-25, 24-26, 21-25)

Game Two: Farmingdale State - 3, Old Westbury - 2 (25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 16-25, 15-12)


Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Rams women's volleyball team (2-2) defeated Old Westbury in a five-set match today, but fell to Centenary College in day two of the Old Westbury Panthers Invitational. Senior libero Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) was named to the All-Tournament team after tallying 63 digs (3.71 per game) for Farmingdale State over the weekends four games.

The Rams faced Centenary College in the first game of the day and took a 1-0 lead after the first set, winning 25-20, but fell in three straight 17-25, 24-26 and 21-25, for a 3-1 loss. Farmingdale senior right side Cathryn McLean (Freeport, N.Y./Northport) had 16 kills and 15 digs, while freshman outside Alyssa Siegel (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) had nine kills and a team-high four service aces.

In the second game of the day, the Rams faced conference foe Old Westbury. Farmingdale went up 2-0 after winning the first two sets, 25-21 and 26-24, before Old Westbury rallied 25-20 and 25-16 in the third and fourth set, which forces a fifth and deciding 15-point set. The Rams went ahead with a 15-12 win for the 3-2 victory. McLean had 12 kills, seven service aces and nine digs, while Rokee had 16 digs. Siegel finished with seven kills and five service aces.

Farmingdale State will now host a scrimmage with Nassau Community College this Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00 p.m.
