Fifth Game Rally Gives Rams Victory

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team improved to 11-13, 3-1 in the Skyline with a five-game victory over conference opponent Polytechnic University (11-5, 3-1) tonight in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams used a late rally in the final game to come back from an 11-8 deficit, as they scored seven straight points to take the fifth and deciding game 15-11.

Farmingdale won game one easily 30-16, but fell in game two as Polytechnic fought back to tie it up at 1 game apiece with a 30-24 win. The third game went in the Rams favor 30-25 and Polytechnic forced the fifth game with a 30-27 victory in game four. Farmingdale, Polytechnic and Old Westbury are currently all tied for second place with a 3-1 conference record.

Rams seniors Colleen Mackey (North Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) and Amanda Sperling (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led the team in the win. Mackey finished with 42 assists and 21 digs. Sperling had 18 kills, including 4 of the final 7 points, along with 18 digs and three blocks.

The Rams host Lehman College this Wednesday, October 10th in a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m.
