New Paltz, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team
went 3-1 at the New Paltz Hawk Invitational this weekend in New
Paltz, N.Y., improving their record to 5-6 overall and finishing
third in the eight-team tournament. Junior middle blocker Cathryn
McLean (Northport, N.Y./Northport) was named to the All-Tournament
team after finishing with a total of 75 kills, 89 digs and 24 total
blocks (23 solo) over the four-match weekend.
Farmingdale started the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 3-2 win over Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary (30-21, 30-21, 25-30, 23-30, 15-11). McLean paced the attack with 25 kills and 21 digs, senior right side Colleen Mackey (North Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) finished with eight kills and 24 digs, freshman setter Jeanne Marie Weber (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) handed out 42 assists. Senior middle/outside Amanda Sperling (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) tallied seven kills and five aces, while junior outside hitter Theresa Rokee (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) collected 30 digs.
The Rams won game two on Friday night, 3-0, over Buffalo State (30-24, 30-27, 30-28). Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Sieber (Commack, N.Y./Commack) led the team with 12 kills, while McLean posted 10 kills and 23 digs. Weber finished with 27 assists in just two-of-3 games played and Mackey registered 22 digs.
In game three of the tournament on Saturday afternoon, Farmingdale fell to Keuka College 0-3 (21-30, 27-30, 24-30). Three players posted double-doubles in the loss, McLean with 16 kills and 16 digs, Mackey with 10 kills and 12 digs and Sperling with 10 kills and 10 digs.
In the 3-2 win over Morrisville (27-30, 30-12, 29-31, 30-22, 15-10) for third place in the tournament, McLean finished with 24 kills, 29 digs and nine solo blocks. Sieber posted 11 kills and 14 digs and Sperling finished with 11 kills and 14 digs.
Farmingdale will begin their Skyline Conference schedule this week when they host St. Joseph's College on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00 p.m.
