Farmingdale, NY – Farmingdale and Old Westbury's women's volleyball teams faced off at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of SUNY Old Westbury on Tuesday night, October 24th, not only for a Skyline Conference game, but to hold a fundraiser in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All of the players wore pink socks during the match to promote breast cancer awareness and the coaches sported pink t-shirts or wore pink pre-wrap. Performances in between games were Donations were accepted at the door and all proceeds will be given to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The dance club "The Step Tunes", from Old Westbury, also provided some exciting entertainment in between games.

The rivalry has always been exciting between these two SUNY schools and both teams improved from last season, each surpassing last years win totals. Last season, Old Westbury took the victory in a close five-game match, 3-2, by scores of 30-24, 30-20, 28-30, 27-30 and 15-9.

Game Recap: The Rams came out strong with two quick wins, 30-22 and 30-21, but Old Westbury put the pressure on in game three after trailing early, and won 30-22 to force a fourth game. Farmingdale used an 11-point rally in game four to take a 17-6 lead and continue their strong play for a 30-17 win and the 3-1 match victory. After the game, Farmingdale coach Tom Gordon mentioned "this was a great event to take part in with such a big rivalry team. We all enjoyed the atmosphere and the fact that it was all for such a good cause."

The game proved crucial to the final regular-season volleyball standings. The Rams jumped ahead of the Panthers (5-2) into 2nd place with the win to put them at 5-1 in the conference. SUNY Old Westbury's Coach Marjhana Seagers said "this is a first for us, we have never done anything in a game like this and it was exciting. The girls and I enjoyed taking on a bigger cause with Farmingdale. We hope that everyone enjoyed the game and will continue to support the fight against breast cancer in the future."
The Rams host a tri-match on Saturday, October 28th against St. Joseph's and Centenary for the final regular-season games. The Panthers will be traveling to Maryland this weekend for the St. Mary's (Md.) Invitational and will face Mount Saint Mary at home on October 31st to wrap up the regular season.
