Rams Win Streak Stopped at the Hands of New Paltz

New Paltz, NY - The Farmingdale State women's volleyball team (5-1) split two games in the first day of the New Paltz Hawk Invitational, ending their four game win streak with a loss to New Paltz, 3-0, but bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Morrisville State in the second game of the night.

In game one against New Paltz, the Rams had a close first and third game, 30-24 and 30-25, but were overpowered in the second game, falling 30-14. Senior Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) led the team with eight kills and six digs in just one game for Farmingdale State. Senior setter Falon Taddeo (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) had 25 assists and seven digs, while senior outside hitter Melissa Rudy (Dix Hills, NY/Hills East) tallied six kills and seven digs. Junior Colleen Mackey (North Merrick, NY/Calhoun) contributed sevin kills.

In game two against Morrisville, the Rams cruised to a 3-0 win with scores of 30-20, 30-18 and 30-24 to improve to 5-1 on the season. Sophomore middle blocker Cathryn McLean (Northport, NY/Northport) led the team with eight kills and four blocks. Junior middle blocker Amanda Sperling (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) added seven kills over two games played. Senior setters Taddeo and Megan Cranmer (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) finished with 16 and nine assists, respectively, in the win.

The Rams will face two teams tomorrow, September 16th, for day two of the Hawk Invitational.
