Old Westbury Holds Off Late Farmingdale Rally

Old Westbury was able to hold off a late rally for a 3-2 victory over conference rival Farmingdale State in tonights women’s volleyball game. The Panthers took a two game lead with 30-24 and 30-20 wins before the Rams countered with two wins of their own at 30-28 and 30-27. The fifth game would find Farmingdale in an early lead, but Old Westbury rallied back for the 15-9 win.

Jen Ragone (North Massapequa, NY/Plainedge) finished with 30 assists for the Panthers, while Stacey Dubin (Selden, NY/Newfield) had 23 digs. Whitney Alexander (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker) and Jen Hoyt (Syosset, NY/Syosset) both tallied 11 kills for Old Westbury.

Farmingdale’s sophomore setter Megan Cranmer (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) set a new career-high tonight with a game-high 42 assists, shattering her former record of 30 assists in a game. Junior outside hitter Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) totaled 20 kills and 13 digs, while freshman Cathryn McLean (East Northport, NY/Northport) finished with 13 kills and four solo blocks. Sophomore libero Elena Albert (Dix Hills, NY/Hills East) led the team with 14 digs.

The Rams host St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn on Thursday night, October 20th, in a non-conference game at 7:00pm.
