Under the direction of first year Coach Irma Munoz, the Women’s Volleyball team finished the 2003 season with a record of 20-13, including 5-3 in the Skyline Conference.
The Rams captured their first ever WIAC Championship defeating former champion St. Joseph’s College 3-0. Sophomore Setter Falon Taddeo was named the WIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. In the Skyline Conference Playoffs, the Rams defeated Stevens 3-0 at home and advanced on to the Semi-finals against Kings Point. Unfortunately, their successful season came to an end after losing a marathon five-game match to Kings Point 3-2.
Individually, the team received many honors and put up some impressive numbers. Co-Captain Gina Carbone was selected First Team All-Skyline, as well as First Team All-WIAC. Carbone finished her senior year with 222 kills, 59 aces, 263 digs, 53 solo blocks and 37 block assists during regular season play. Co-Captain Jackie Murray was named First Team All-WIAC and finished her senior year with 193 kills, 30 aces, 346 digs, 8 solo blocks and 12 block assists. Sophomore Nicole Tassone was named Second Team All-WIAC, as she accumulated 154 kills, 58 aces, 185 digs, 57 solo blocks and 31 block assists. Gina Moscato had an incredible rookie season for the Rams; during regular season play she accumulated 140 kills, 74 aces and 218 digs. Senior Setter Nancy Lembo and Taddeo had outstanding seasons for the Rams and were the floor leaders throughout the year.

Irma Munoz Resigns as Head Volleyball Coach at Farmingdale State
Mike Harrington, Director of Athletics at Farmingdale State, announces today that Head Volleyball Coach Irma Munoz has resigned to pursue other interests.
Munoz, who guided the Rams to a 20-13 record in her only season as head coach, is expected to join former Farmingdale Coach Jolie Ward’s staff at Eastern Connecticut State University. The search for a new coach will begin immediately.

Farmingdale Loses Heartbreaker in Skyline Semi-Finals

Farmingdale (20-13) played a marathon match in the Semi-Finals against top seed Kings Point (15-13) only to see their season end with a heartbreaking loss in game five.
Farmingdale won the first game to take an early lead in the match. The next two games went to Kings Point giving them a 2-1 match lead. But the Rams never gave up and came back from a 22-14 deficit and force a deciding game five. The fifth game was a grueling battle as both teams fought for a chance to advance to the Final’s. After each team failed three times on game point, Kings Point finally won the game 21-19 and advanced to the Skyline Final’s.
Leaders for Farmingdale were Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY) with 19 kills and 16 digs and Nicole Tassone (East Patchogue, NY) added 17 points on attacks, 2 aces and 4 digs. Jackie Murray (Farmingville, NY) led the defensive effort for the Rams with a match-high 26 digs. Falon Taddeo (Oceanside, NY) supported the team with 30 assists, 10 kills and 15 digs. Amanda Amodio (Bay Shore, NY) dug 13 balls in the backcourt, while Gina Carbone (Selden, NY) added 11 kills, 2 aces and 7 digs.

Three Farmingdale Athletes Named to WIAC Volleyball All-Star Team
Three members of Farmingdale’s Women’s Volleyball Team have been chosen as All-Stars in the Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Senior Co-Captains Gina Carbone (Selden, NY) and Jackie Murray (Farmingville, NY) have been chosen as First Team All-Stars. Sophomore Nicole Tassone (East Patchogue, NY) was named to the Second Team All-Stars.

The Rams were the #2 seed with a WIAC record of 5-1 going into the WIAC Tournament on Saturday. The women’s first match of the day came in the Semi-finals, where they met the #3 seed Stevens Institute of Technology. Farmingdale went 2-2 in the first four matches, forcing a deciding fifth match. The Rams won the match 15-12 and advanced to the Finals where they met St. Joseph’s Patchogue. The Rams upset the #1 seed and captured the WIAC Championship with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 32-30) win. Farmingdale’s Sophomore Setter Falon Taddeo (Oceanside, NY) was named the WIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The Rams are seeded 4th in the Skyline Conference Tournament and will be hosting #5 seed Stevens Tech on Wednesday, November 5th, with a game time of 7:30 pm.

The Rams fell to Kean University (10-14) today as they lost 0-3. Farmingdale’s record falls to 16-8, 5-3 in the Skyline. Iwona Janiak (Clifton, NJ) led the Cougars, serving 6 aces, 12 kills, and 11 digs in the win over the Rams. Farmingdale played very well despite the outcome, and looks forward to this weekend’s tournament in Minnesota, as they travel to the College of St. Benedict.

Mt. St. Mary’s (10-10, 6-1 Skyline) took this Skyline/WIAC match from Farmingdale (16-7, 5-3 Skyline) with a final score of 3-1. Farmingdale captured the first match 30-23, but couldn’t hold the lead as Mt. St. Mary’s rallied for the victory. The Rams kept it close in each of the final three matches, with a scoring margin of 3-5 points. Farmingdale now stands at 5-3 in the Skyline, and Mt. St. Mary’s improves to 6-1. The Rams take on Kean University this Saturday, the 18th at 11am.

Farmingdale lost the first two games to New Jersey City, but came back to win the final three games and take the match at 3-2. Jackie Murray (Farmingville, NY) came up big again in this match, with 15 kills, 22 digs, and 2 aces. Nicole Tassone (East Patchogue, NY) was a factor for the Rams with 13 kills, 11 digs, 2 blocks, and 1 ace. The Lady Rams improved their record to 16-6 this season, 5-2 Skyline, 5-1 WIAC.

Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY) and Nancy Lembo (Northport, NY) led the Rams tonight to improve their season record to 14-6, 4-2 in the Skyline. Moscato had 10 kills, 4 digs, and 1 ace. Lembo had 10 digs, 18 assists, and 3 kills.

The Rams played in the 2003 Devils Volleyball Classic at FDU-Florham this weekend, coming back with a record of 2-2. Farmingdale went up against Ramapo and Gwyned-Mercy on Friday afternoon, and FDU-Florham and Russell Sage on Saturday.

The Rams overpowered Staten Island today winning 3-0. Farmingdale took the first game 30-12, second game 30-11, and then went on a 22-2 run to win game three 30-9.
Farmingdale tallied 30 kills to the Dolphins 7 on their way to victory. Leading in kills for the Rams were Gina Carbone (Selden, NY) with 9 and Emily Fallon (Bohemia, NY) with 7. Nancy Lembo (Northport, NY) had a great defensive day with 11 defensive digs.

Farmingdale State goes 2-1 at Muhlenburg College Tournament
The Farmingdale State Women's Volleyball team improved to 5-1 on the season after going 2-1 this past weekend at the Muhlenburg College Buttermaker Volleyball Tournament. The Rams defeated Ne umann College and Misericordia College and lost to Tourament Champion Catholic University.

Farmingdale State wins all 3 games at Tip-Off Tournament
The Rams Volleyball Team began the season on a high note going 3-0 at the Skyline/NJAC Crossover Tournament hosted by Stevens Tech. Farmingdale was the only team out of six Colleges to win all three of their matches, defeating William Paterson, Ramapo and Montclair State. Senior middle Gina Carbone (Selden, NY/Newfield) and sophomore middle Nicole Tassone (E. Patchogue, NY/Bellport) were named to the All-Tournament Team for Farmingdale. The Tournament also marked the coaching debut of Irma Munoz, who replaced Coach Jolie Ward (Eastern Connecticut). Coach Munoz was Ward's assistant coach at Farmingdale the past five seasons.
