Hunter Edges Past Women's Tennis

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior Anastasia Hoffman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) pushed the Farmingdale State College women's tennis team ahead by a 2-1 score through doubles action Saturday afternoon with a tiebreaker victory in their top-flight doubles match, before visiting Hunter College captured four of six singles matches to knock off the Rams by a 5-4 margin.

Hoffman and Collings defeated the Hawks' (3-0) Zaara Afida and Nikhar Rathi, 8-7 and 7-3 in the tiebreaker, in the No. 1 doubles match. The host Rams (3-2) also picked up a doubles win in the No. 3 flight, when freshmen Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) outlasted Anna Chapko and Lily McAndrews by an 8-6 count.

In singles play, FSC earned two points when Hoffman took out Afida in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) in the top flight, while freshman Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Mia Chan.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are back in action Monday afternoon, when they travel to Danbury, Conn., for a 4:30 p.m. first serve at Western Connecticut State University.
