Rams Defeat St. Joseph's-Long Island to Advance to Skyline Final

#1 Farmingdale State - 5, #4 St. Joseph's-Long Island - 1


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State women's tennis team hosted fourth-seeded St. Joseph's-Long Island this afternoon for the Skyline Conference Semifinals and won, 5-1.

Today was also senior day at FSC as seniors Shari Jackson (Copiague, N.Y.) and Katherine Del Valle (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) were honored prior to the match.

FSC (11-3) opened with an 8-1 win at #1 doubles as freshmen Anastasia Hoffman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) defeated Golden Eagles (4-6) junior Trinity Behlen (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and sophomore Angela Avecillas Martinez (Patchogue, N.Y.).

At third doubles, freshmen Mia Murrell (Shirley, N.Y.) and Susana Pariona (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up an 8-5 win over senior Angelina DeMonte (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore Haley Celona (Deer Park, N.Y.).

The Golden Eagles captured one point in doubles as sophomore Madison DiPalo (Manorville, N.Y.) and senior Jessica Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) took the second slot, 8-7 (10-8), over FSC's Rosa Lettieri (West Islip, N.Y.) and Jackson.

Leading 2-1 heading into singles, Hoffman and Murrell earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at first and fifth singles, respectively.

Farmingdale State clinched the 5-1 victory with a Lettieri, 6-3, 6-0, decision at #2 singles against Martinez.

The third, fourth and sixth singles matches remained unfinished.

The Rams have advanced to the Skyline Conference Final and will play host to #3 Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m.
