Rams Drop Non-Conference Match to Baruch

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Baruch this evening, 6-3. The Rams fell to 1-2 overall, while the Bearcats won their season opener and are 1-0.

After splitting the second and third doubles matches, Baruch's Ava Deguzman (Long Beach, Calif.) and Natalie Ibelhaupt (New York, N.Y.) earned an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaking win over Farmingdale State's Anastasia Hoffman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Rosa Lettieri (West Islip, N.Y.) in the #1 slot to take a 2-1 advantage.

In singles, Deguzman (6-2, 6-0) won at first singles, before Lettieri picked up a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the second match.

The Bearcats' Esther Benjamin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (6-3, 0-6, 6-4), Erika Sheludenko (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Ibelhaupt (6-4, 6-0) won in the third through fifth positions to clinch the win.

FSC sophomore Katherine Del Valle (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) captured sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0, in the loss.

The Rams next will head to Oneonta for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 18th at 11:00 a.m.
