Farmingdale State Defeats #1 SJC-LI to Win Skyline Championship

#3 Farmingdale State - 5, #1 St. Joseph's-Long Island - 3


Patchogue, N.Y. - The third-seed Farmingdale State women's tennis team defeated #1 St. Joseph's-Long Island, 5-3, in the Skyline Conference Championship match this afternoon. The Rams (6-2) have earned the Skyline's automatic qualifier to the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.

Farmingdale State fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition as the Golden Eagles (6-1) won, 8-6, in both the first and third slots. FSC sophomore Rosa Lettieri (West Islip, N.Y.) and Stephanie Negrillo (West Islip, N.Y.) won 8-2 in the second position.

In singles play, Lettieri defeated SJC-LI junior Joan Dabalsky (St. James, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-2 in the second spot, while freshman Anastasia Hoffman (North Massapequa, N.Y.) earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision at #1 singles.

After St. Joseph's-Long Island senior Erin Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) won 6-1, 7-5 at fifth singles, FSC sophomore Shari Jackson (Copiague, N.Y.) picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in the fourth slot.

The Rams clinching fifth point came at #3 singles as Negrillo came-from-behind to defeat senior Mackenzie Martocci (Oakdale, N.Y.), 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The #6 singles match was left unfinished with Farmingdale State freshman Susana Pariona (Massapequa, N.Y.) holding a slight lead in the third set, 6-4, 4-6, 2-0.

Lettieri was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship after winning her #2 doubles and singles matches.

The Rams find out where they will be heading for the NCAA Championship on Monday, May 10th.
