
Farmingdale State - 7, Hunter College - 2
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team improved to 1-3 on the season as they defeated non-conference opponent Hunter College in their home opener on Wednesday evening, 7-2.
In doubles competition, the Rams fell in the #3 match, but rebounded with wins at 1st and 2nd doubles. The pairing of sophomore Kayla Reidy (Sayville, N.Y.) and senior Olivia Stauffer (Greenlawn, N.Y.) won in the first spot, 9-7, before junior's Celine Zollinger (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Carolann La Monica (Islip, N.Y.) earned the second point for FSC with an 8-6 win.
After Farmingdale State and Hunter (0-2) split the #1 and #2 singles matches via retirement, the Rams swept the rest of the way as #3 Zollinger (6-0, 6-0), #4 La Monica (6-3, 6-0), #5 sophomore Julia Marino (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) (6-4, 6-3) and #6 freshman Cameren Jackson (Copiague, N.Y.) (6-1, 6-4) posted victories in their respective positions for the 7-2 win.
FSC next hosts Baruch for a non-conference match on Saturday, September 16th at 1:00pm.
