Queens, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team opened the 2014 season with an 8-1 victory over John Jay College (0-1) on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams (1-0) held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play before sweeping the singles matches.
Senior Alex Bentz (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Michelle Fredericks (Farmingdale, N.Y.) posted an 8-0 win at #2 doubles, while freshman Madison Schrader (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and senior Amanda Vecchio (Shirley, N.Y.) posted an 8-5 win.
In singles play, senior Jessica Sickles (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) won 6-2, 6-4 in the #1 spot and sophomore Priscilla Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) grabbed a three-set victory (3-6, 6-0, 10-8). In the third singles spot, another win came from Bentz, while Fredericks (#4), Tatiana Rosamilia (#5) and Denise Liguori (#6) rounded out the final three spots with W's.
Farmingdale State will now travel to face William Paterson on Saturday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m.
