Rams Fall in First National Women's Tennis Appearance

Amherst, Mass. – The Farmingdale State women's tennis team traveled to regional host, Amherst College, for the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament on Thursday afternoon, but fell to Endicott College 5-2 in the opening round.

The Rams end their first-ever Championship season at 15-3 overall, while the Gulls advance to Second Round action against Amherst on Friday, May 9th at 9:00 a.m.

Farmingdale State fell behind 3-0 in doubles play, despite two close decisions. Freshman Tatiana Rosamilia (Oceanside, N.Y.) and sophomore Denise Liguori (Massapequa, N.Y.) were defeated 8-2 in the #3 spot, against freshmen Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.) and Skyelar MacLeod (Portsmouth, R.I.).

In #1 doubles play, junior Jessica Sickles (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Priscilla Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) fell by a close 8-6 decision to junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.). Wrapping up doubles play in the #2 spot were freshman Michelle Fredericks (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior Alex Bentz (Masapequa Park, N.Y.), who fell in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-2), to sophomores Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) and Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.).

At #3 singles, Rhodes got the Gulls their 4th point with a 6-0, 6-1 decision, before the Rams took two straight matches from Endicott. Sickles defeated Heacox at #1 singles (6-3, 6-0) and Rosamilia took a 6-0, 6-2 decision over sophomore Savannah Deady (Andover, Mass.) to make it a 4-2 score.

Endicott got their match-winning point in the #6 spot with a 6-2, 6-4 win, while both the #2 and #4 spots were split when the match was called.

The Rams and Coach Waterhouse will look to get back to the NCAA's in 2015 after this record-setting season, as they return their entire roster.
