Rams Fall for First Time this Season
Sage - 5, Farmingdale State - 4
Troy, N.Y. - The Sage Colleges women’s
tennis team hosted the Rams on Saturday afternoon in Prospect Park
in a key Skyline Conference match. Sage would come away with the
5-4 win to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Skyline
Conference, while the loss was the first of the year for the Rams,
falling to 3-1 and 1-1 in the Skyline.
Leading the way for the Gators was senior Christina Gray (Clifton
Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) as she posted the 6-3, 6-1 win over senior
Oshea Davis (Hempstead, N.Y./Freeport). The victory marks the 15th
straight singles win for Gray, which dates back to September of
2008.
Sophomore Briana Bixler (Highland, N.Y./Highland) tallied the
winning and decisive fifth point for the Gators with her 6-0, 6-4
win over freshman Laura Earlie (Moriches, N.Y./William Floyd).
Bixler is also undefeated in singles play this fall as she is now
5-0 after Saturday’s key win.
Farmingdale’s Davis and senior Kate McEntee (Greenwich,
Conn./Pomfret) would score the first win over Sage’s top
doubles pair of Gray and sophomore Erica Fitzgerald (Queensbury,
N.Y./Queensbury), winning 8-6. Fitzgerald also added a win at
second singles for the Gators.
Freshman Megan Holmes (West Camp, N.Y./Saugerties) added the
team’s last win in singles’ play as she won 6-3, 6-4
over freshman Vanessa Josma (Massapequa, N.Y./Amitville
Memorial).
Farmingdale State now hosts Nassau Community College on Tuesday,
September 22 at 4:00 p.m.
