Rams Open Season with Win over Yeshiva

Edgewater, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team opened the 2009 season with a 5-4 victory over Skyline opponent Yeshiva University (0-1) on Thursday, September 3rd at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgwater, N.J.

The Rams started off the night with two doubles wins from first doubles tandem of senior Oshea Davis (Hempstead, N.Y./Freeport) and senior Kate McEntee (Greenwich, Conn./Pomfret) with an 8-0 shutout. Farmingdale's Gina Cane and freshman Laura Earlie (Moriches, N.Y./William Floyd) also won, 8-5, at second doubles, putting the team ahead 2-0 going into singles play.

At first singles, Davis defeated Davina Moutaoy 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. McEntee defeated Easther Schectman 6-0, 6-2 at second singles. At sixth singles, freshman Vanessa Josman (Massapequa, N.Y./Amityville) defeated Ariella Kaplan 6-1, 6-1 and the Rams edged out the Maccabees 5-4 to improve to 1-0 on the year.

Farmingdale State will now face John Jay College on September 12th at Noon. The match is scheduled to be played at York College, but if construction is finished on our brand new, state-of-the-art tennis courts early next week, the Rams will host John Jay at home on Saturday, the 12th, at Noon.
