Reilly Leads Rams Past #6 MSMC; Advances to Skyline Semifinals

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The third-seeded Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team defeated #6 Mount Saint Mary College, 14-1, in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Championship on Tuesday evening. Senior goalkeeper Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded 16 saves on 17 shots to lead FSC to the Semifinals game on Thursday.

The Rams (8-9) controlled the first half, outscoring the Knights (6-11), 7-0, in the first 30 minutes.

FSC senior attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored the opening goal just 1:05 into play off the Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) pass.

Sophomore midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control and scored only 14 seconds later to take a 2-0 advantage.

Espey, freshman midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.), senior midfielder Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Diamond each recorded unassisted goals as Farmingdale State took a 6-0 lead.

Vogiatzis recorded her 40th goal of the season, off the pass from junior attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), to give FSC the 7-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

After each team scored to open the third quarter, Vogiatzis scored her third of the game off the pass from junior attack Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.) to go ahead, 9-1.

Just 44 seconds later, Diamond set up Pontecorvo for a goal as the Rams took a 10-1 lead.

In the fourth, Codispoti rattled off three consecutive goals to put the Rams up by 12.

Farmingdale State's final goal came on a Coppola unassisted score as FSC earned the 14-1 victory.

Codispoti had a game-high four goals, to go along with two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw control. Vogiatzis recorded three goals and picked up four ground balls, while Diamond produced one goal, two assists, and four draw control. Espey and Coppola tallied two goals apiece and Hughes registered two assists. Pontecorvo added a goal and an assist.

On defense, senior Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) had a game-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had two caused turnovers in the win.

Farmingdale State has advanced to the Skyline Conference Semifinals and will now travel to play second-seeded Merchant Marine on Thursday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m.
