Diamond Tallies 100th Career Point as Rams Cruise Past Old Westbury

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Farmingdale State junior midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) entered with 96 career points and racked up four assists in the Rams 14-1 victory over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. Diamond becomes just the fifth player in program history to record 100 points and 100 draw control, joining Christy Thoden (2012-15), Brittany Rosino (2014-17), Nicole Marzocca (2012-15) and Theresa Rokee (2006-09). The FSC women's lacrosse team improved to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the Skyline with the win.

The Rams controlled the first half, scoring six goals in the first quarter and three more in the second to take a commanding 9-0 advantage.

Sophomore midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored the game's opening goal, from Diamond, before junior attack Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.) set up both senior attack Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) for goals to give the Rams a 3-0 edge.

After Hughes and Zumbrunn set each other up for goals, junior attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored to put Farmingdale State ahead 6-0.

In the second quarter, Vogiatzis scored all three goals to take a 9-0 lead. 

After the halftime break, Diamond set up Zumbrunn and Hughes assisted Vogiatzis to go up, 11-0.

Diamond recorded her 99th and 100th points early in the fourth quarter when she set up freshman midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) for a pair of goals.

Each team scored a goal in the final eight minutes as the Rams earned the 14-1 victory.

Highes recorded a game- and career-high six points on a goal and five assists. Vogiatzis scored a game-high five goals, while Zumbrunn finished with three goals and two assists. Coppola registered career-bests with two goals, two assists, five draw control and two caused turnovers. Along with her four assists, Diamond added three draw control and one ground ball. Pontecorvo (2 g, 3 gb, 1 ct) and Espey (1 g, 1 a, 2 gb) tallied two points apiece.

On defense, senior Adrianna Schiavone (Seaford, N.Y.) caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls for the second consecutive game.

Farmingdale State next travels to non-conference opponent Rowan on Wednesday, April 19th at 6:00 p.m.
