Reilly Tallies 15 Saves to Lead Rams Past St. Joe's-LI

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Senior goalkeeper Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) recorded 15 saves to lead the FSC women's lacrosse team to a 17-5 Skyline Conference victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams won their conference opener and improved to 3-5 overall.

FSC trailed 2-1 in the first quarter as SJLI (1-4, 0-1 Skyline) registered a pair of woman-up scores. In the final 2:46, the Rams used goals by sophomore midfielder Molly Espey (West Hempstead, N.Y.), junior midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and senior attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) to take a 4-2 advantage.

The Golden Eagles opened the second with a goal just 40 seconds in, but Farmingdale State senior attack Marina Zumbrunn (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) answered with a score just 13 seconds later to regain a two-goal lead.

The Rams outscored St. Joseph's-Long Island, 3-1, the remainder of the quarter, behind goals from Diamond, junior attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.), as they took an 8-4 advantage into the halftime break.

Reilly made 10 saves in the first 30 minutes of play.

In the third quarter, the Rams scored four consecutive free-position goals, including three by Codispoti and one from Vogiatzis, to take a commanding 12-4 lead.

Farmingdale State rattled off five straight goals to open the fourth quarter and open up a 17-4 advantage. Junior attack Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.) set up Zumbrunn and Espey for goals before freshman midfielder Kailee Coppola (Levittown, N.Y.) assisted on goals by Zumbrunn and Vogiatzis. Espey recorded FSC's final goal unassisted.

St. Joe's scored a goal in the final minute as Farmingdale State won, 17-5.

Reilly stopped 15-of-20 shots on goal for a .750 save percentage. 

Codispoti led the way offensively with four goals, to go along with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Vogiatzis and Espey registered three goals and one assist each, while Zumbrunn and Diamond produced three goals apiece. Pontecorvo (1g, 1a), Hughes (2a) and Coppola (2a) recorded two points each.

Senior defender Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) finished with three caused turnovers in the win.

The Rams next travel to Merchant Marine for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m.
