Rams Fall to Montclair State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In a non-conference women's lacrosse game this afternoon, Farmingdale State fell to Montclair State, 11-1. FSC dropped to 0-3, while the Red Hawks improved to 3-1.

In a first half controlled by Montclair State, the Red Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead just 10 minutes into the game. Junior attack Kyle Graver (Boyertown, Penn.) opened the scoring just 1:55 in of the feed from Megan Mahlstadt (New Providence, N.J.) before senior midfielder Jessica Andreula (New Egypt, N.J.) netted an unassisted goal to put the Red Hawks ahead 2-0. Montclair State midfielders Michealah Reynolds (Holmdel, N.J.) and Sydnee Sapp (Mount Laurel, N.J.) followed with back-to-back unassisted goals to make it 4-0.

Over the final 16:16 of the half, Reynolds, senior attack Casey Provost (Allentown, N.J.), and Andreula tallied goals to give the Red Hawks a 7-0 advantage at the break.

Montclair State held a 20-5 shot advantage in the half.

The Rams registered the first goal of the second half with 19:34 remaining to cut their deficit to 7-1 as senior midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) scored a man-up goal from junior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.). The Red Hawks quickly responded with a free-position goal from Mahlstadt just 1:56 later to regain a seven-goal edge, 8-1.

Montclair would register the final three goals of the game as they went on for the 11-1 non-conference victory.

FSC senior defender Haley Newberg (West Islip, N.Y.) had a game-high four ground balls, while Sparrow and freshman midfielder Skylar Steinberg (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded three caused turnovers each.

Montclair State was led by Sapp who had a game-high three goals to go along with two ground balls. Graver, Reynolds, and Andreula had two goals apiece in the win.

Farmingdale State next travels to New Paltz for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 13th at 4:00 p.m.
