Ewing, N.J. - The Farmingdale State Women's Lacrosse team traveled to play the #1 ranked team in the nation, The College of New Jersey, this afternoon in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament and fell 19-6. The Rams end their impressive season 18-2 overall, while the Lions (16-1) move on to the Regional Semifinals and will face the University of Mount Union.
TCNJ got on the board early as they scored three goals in the first 4:59 of the contest.
FSC senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) tallied Farmingdale State's first goal of the game just 1:22 later off the feed from senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
After the Lions tallied the next three scores to go up 6-1, senior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) buried a free-position goal to bring the TCNJ lead to four, 6-2, with 9:42 left in the first half.
Lions sophomore midfielder Kathleen Jaegar (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) responded 1:04 later to bring the TCNJ advantage back to five, 7-2.
The teams traded goals the remainder of the half as the Lions held a 9-4 lead at the break. Rosino tallied a pair of free-position goals over the final 6:08, while senior attack Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA) and junior defender Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, Conn.) scored for TCNJ.
The Lions outscored FSC 10-2 in the second half as they came away with the Second Round victory.
TCNJ registered the first two scores of the half, before Rosino scored an unassisted goal for her fourth of the game with 18:44 remaining as the Lions led 11-5.
The final goal of the game for the Rams came from freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) who scored off the pass from Sanchez.
The Lions were led by Jaeger, who finished the day with a game-high five goals, and freshman attack Olivia Cleale (Yardley, Penn.) who totaled four goals and two assists.
Rosino's four goals gives her a total of 56 on the season and 154 in her four-year career, Sanchez's two assists on the day increases her school record to 72 assists in one season, and Keller finishes the year with 46 goals on the season and ends her four-year career at FSC with 102 total goals.
Rams sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) tallied 14 saves in the loss and ends the season a remarkable 17-2. She totaled 172 saves on the season, while only allowing 142 goals.
