FSC Garners Nine All-Conference Women's Lacrosse Awards

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference announced the 2017 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

Farmingdale State swept the major awards as senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) was named Skyline Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) was tabbed Rookie of the Year and Erin Calkins was named Skyline Conference Coach of the Year.

The First Team members were Rosino, Johnston, sophomore defender Haley Newberg (West Islip, N.Y.) and freshman defender Melanie Tencic (Farmingdale, N.Y.), while the Second Team selections were Varone, senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.), senior attack Megan Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.).

Rosino was named Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after leading the team and conference in draw controls (94) and caused turnovers (32). She scored a team-high 50 goals and was second on FSC in assists (16) and ground balls (40). Rosino ranked second in the Nation in free-position percentage (0.75) and 17th for draw controls per game.

Johnston, in her first season at Farmingdale State, held a 7.33 goals against average, a .576 save percentage and stopped 148 shots. She led the Skyline and ranked sixth in the Division III for save percentage. Johnston posted a 16-1 record in goal this year for the Rams.

Varone led the team in ground balls (52) and was second in goals scored (43), draw controls (72) and caused turnovers (27) and third for points (51). She controlled an FSC midfield which ranked ninth in the NCAA in scoring offense and 25th for scoring defense.

Newberg and Tencic anchored the Skyline Conference's top-ranked defense this season as Farmingdale State was seventh in the Nation in scoring margin. Newberg caused five turnovers and picked up 13 ground balls, while Tencic had 20 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

Sanchez, who led the NCAA and set a single-season school record with 67 assists, tallied a team-high 86 points this season. Sanchez also ranked fourth in the Nation in assists per game, was 24th for points and 50th in points per game.

Sullivan was fourth on Farmingdale State in goals (36) and fifth for points with 41. She also picked up 18 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers this season.

Keller ranked second on the team in goals (43) and ground balls (40) and was third in draw controls with 28, while causing 16 turnovers.

Calkins led Farmingdale State to a 17-1 record with their only loss of 2017 coming at Oneonta State, 16-15, in overtime. This season the Rams won the Skyline Conference Championship and earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championships for the first time since 2014.
