Rams Notch Skyline Win at Merchant Marine

Kings Point, N.Y. - After suffering their first loss of the season on Tuesday, the Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team rebounded with a 15-2 Skyline Conference victory at Merchant Marine on Thursday night.

Leading 2-1 with 20:58 remaining in the first half, FSC (11-1, 4-0) took a two-goal edge on a score from freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) as senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) tallied the assist. Neither team scored over the next 13 minutes until sophomore midfielder Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) converted a free-position opportunity to increase the Farmingdale State lead to 4-1. Over the final 5:25 of the half, the Rams used a pair of scores by senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) and one apiece from both Varone and senior attack Megan Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to take an 8-1 advantage into halftime.

After an early second half goal by Rosino put the Rams ahead, 9-1, senior attack Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) scored on a free-position attempt and Varone followed win an unassisted goal to make it a 10-goal lead. Over the remaining 18:53 of the game, FSC outscored Merchant Marine (4-4, 2-2) 4-1 en route to the 15-2 victory.

Sullivan led all scorers with a game-high four goals, while Rosino recorded a game-high five points on three goals and two assists, registered six draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Varone finished the night with three goals and three ground balls for Farmingdale State. Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) stopped 13 shots and allowed only two goals.

Freshman midfielder Angela Parker (Bowie, Md.) scored both goals for the Mariners.

FSC next will travel to Maritime for a conference game on Friday, April 21st at 4:00 p.m.
