Comeback Victory Leads Rams Past Eastern Connecticut

Farmingdale State - 7, Eastern Connecticut - 5


Willimantic, Conn. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team trailed 4-2 early in the second half and outscored Eastern Connecticut 5-1 the remainder of the game for a 7-5 non-conference victory. The Rams improved to a perfect 8-0 on the season, while the Warriors dropped to 6-3.

Trailing 3-1 late in the first, FSC freshman midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal and the final score of the half to send the Rams into the break trailing by one.

Eastern Connecticut regained their two-score advantage on an unassisted goal by junior attack Jenna Glynn (West Granby, Conn.) with 24:12 remaining.

Farmingdale State senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) responded with back-to-back goals to even the score at 4-4 with 10:22 left on the clock. Only 21 seconds later, freshman attack Alyssa Powers (Ellington, Conn.) netted the pass from Michelina Pinto (Groton, Conn.) to put the Warriors back in front, 5-4.

After an Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.) goal with 5:23 remaining tied the game at 5-5, freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) tallied the eventual game-winner to put Farmingdale State in front, 6-5. The Rams added a late goal to cap off the 7-5 road victory.

Sanchez recorded a game-high four points on two goals and two assists, while Varone and Sparrow each scored twice.

FSC sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had 11 saves and senior Taylor Emmerson (Colchester, Conn.) stopped 16 shots for Eastern Connecticut.

The Rams next will play host to Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, April 5th at 4:00 p.m.
