Farmingdale State - 13, New Paltz - 7
New Paltz, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team scored six goals in the first 10:27 of today's non-conference road victory over New Paltz State to guide them to their seventh straight win, 13-7.
The Rams (7-0) used five different scorers to take the 6-1 advantage with 19:33 left in the first half. Senior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) tallied FSC's first goal just 36 seconds in and was followed by goals from senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.), and senior attack Megan Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to put the Rams up 4-0.
After the Hawks (4-2) registered their first goal to cut the deficit to 4-1, senior attack Mia Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Varone scored back-to-back goals to give FSC the 6-1 lead.
New Paltz answered by tallying the next three goals of the contest to bring the Farmingdale State advantage to just two, 6-4, with 14:57 remaining in the half.
Following an FSC timeout, Rams senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) won the ensuing draw control, which led to a goal by Keller just 17 seconds later to take a three-goal lead, 7-4.
FSC went into the break up 8-5, after Varone tallied her thrid goal of the half with 2:21 left on the clock.
New Paltz junior midfielder Kayla Massena (Cicero, N.Y.) scored three goals in the first for the Hawks.
In the second, Farmingdale State used goals by Sullivan and junior midfielder Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) to take a 10-5 advantage with 20:03 left in the game.
The Rams would maintain at least a four-score lead the rest of the way as they earned the victory, 13-7.
Varone logged game-highs with six ground-balls and four caused turnovers, to go along with her three goals. Sullivan finished with three goals and four ground balls, while Sanchez added six points on one goal and five assists.
Farmingdale sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) stopped 13 shots in the win.
FSC next travels to play non-conference opponent Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m.
