Rams Remain Unbeaten with Win Over St. Joe's-LI

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 6-0 on the year after earning a 15-8 home victory over two-time defending Skyline Conference Champion St. Joseph's-LI this evening.

Leading 3-2 with 24:29 remaining in the first half, the Rams (6-0, 1-0) took a two-goal edge on a score by freshman midfielder Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.). After a goal from Nicole Stoppelli (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) cut the Golden Eagles (1-7, 0-1) deficit to one, FSC responded with scores by junior midfielder Samantha Morra (Levittown, N.Y.) and senior attack Megan Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to go ahead, 6-3, with 12:23 on the clock.

The Rams held an 8-5 advantage and tallied a pair of goals in the final 20 seconds of the first half to take a 10-5 lead into the break.

Over the first 7:56 of the second, Farmingdale State extended the lead to 12-5 after both Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) and Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) recorded goals. The teams would each score three goals the remainder of the way as the Rams carded the 15-8 win.

Senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.) had a game-high seven points on one goal and a career-best six assists, while senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored four goals, had one assist, 10 draw controls and six ground balls. Varone finished the night with three goals and a game-high five caused turnovers.

St. Joe's-LI was led by senior attack Brooke Kreuscher (Bayport, N.Y.) who tallied five points on three goals and two assists to go along with four ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) had 10 saves for FSC, while sophomore Lindsay Ramos (Farmingdale, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots for the Golden Eagles.

Farmingdale State next will travel to New Paltz State for a non-conference game on Thursday, March 30th at 3:00 p.m.
