Rosino Paces Rams in Win over Albright

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team remains undefeated with a 14-12 non-conference victory over Albright today. The Rams now hold a 5-0 record overall, while the Lions dropped to 4-4.

With 16:50 left to play in the first half, senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale State a 5-2 lead off a pass from senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.). Three straight scores from Albright over the next eight minutes tied the game at 5-5. Rosino responded with two assists in 20 seconds, on goals by Mia Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Alexandra Sparrow (Levittown, N.Y.), as the Rams took back the lead 7-5.

The Lions scored the next two for another tie game with 3:10 on the clock, before Rosino and Sanchez combined for the next two goals to close out the half with a 9-7 Rams lead.

In the second half, Rosino opened the scoring, 10-7 FSC, while Sparrow and senior midfielder Kristin Keller (Westbury, N.Y.) tallied a goal each for a five goal Rams cushion, 12-7, with 28 minutes left in play.

Albright held the Rams scoreless over the next 13 minutes and posted four consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 12-11 with 15:16 remaining. A Keller free position goal just 21 seconds later made it 13-11 Farmingdale State.

Freshman midfielder Devon Mela (Newton, Pa.) put her team back within one, 13-12, at the 13-minute mark and the score would stand until 1:20 when Sanchez notched her third goal of the game and to secure the 14-12 win.

Rosino led the Rams offense with three goals, three assists and four draw controls, while Sanchez finished with three goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) picked up a game-high five draw controls, as Farmingdale controlled the draws in the game, 16-10. Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.) made 12 saves for Farmingdale State.

For Albright, junior midfielder Sydney Nankervis (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Sophie Bass (Westfield, N.J.) combined for nine of their teams 26 caused turnovers. Bass also added a game-high four goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Mariah Cullen (East Islip, N.Y.) finished the day with three goals, one assist and a game-high five draw controls.

The Rams will now host St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday, March 28th in their Skyline Conference opener at 7:00 p.m.
