Rams Hold Off Johnson & Wales in Non-Conference Win

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 overall with a 10-9 victory today over non-conference opponent Johnson & Wales (R.I.).

The Rams went ahead 10-8 off a goal from senior midfielder Kristen Keller (Westbury, N.Y.), assisted by senior attack Janisha Sanchez (Brentwood, N.Y.), with 8:12 remaining in regulation. FSC held the Wildcats (3-3) to just one goal over the final minutes. A crucial save by Rams sophomore goalkeeper Tori Johnston (Hauppauge, N.Y.), with 2:40 on the clock, preserved the win.

In the first half, Farmingdale state led 3-1 after a goal from Keller and two goals from senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (North Babylon, N.Y.). The Wildcats scored four straight to go ahead 5-3, before the Rams closed the half with three unanswered goals to hold a 6-5 advantage.

With 16:28 left to play, Sanchez set up sophomore attack Nicola Ingrassia (Deer Park, N.Y.) in front to put FSC up 9-6. Johnson & Wales responded with two goals over the next five minutes to cut the deficit to 9-8. Keller's goal came three minutes later for the two goal cushion and eventual win.

Johnston finished with a season-high 13 saves for Farmingdale State. Rosino posted game-highs of three goals, five caused turnovers and three ground balls.

For Johnson & Wales, senior midfielder Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, N.Y.) had a team-high three points (2g, 1a) and game-high eight draw controls. The Wildcats controlled the draws 15-6 in the loss.

The Rams will now host Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
