Rams Fall to Second-Seeded Yeshiva in Skyline Semifinal

#2 Yeshiva - 5, #3 Farmingdale State - 1


Flushing, N.Y. - The third-seeded FSC men's tennis team traveled to the USTA Tennis Center to play #2 Yeshiva in the Skyline Conference Semifinal Thursday evening and lost, 5-1.

YU (9-4) captured two points in doubles competition. After Farmingdale State (10-6) seniors Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-0 win at second doubles, the Maccabees evened the score as Yoni Mayer (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Leon Bassan (Panama City, Panama) teamed up to defeat FSC's (10-6) Mario Contreras (Southold, N.Y.) and Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.), 8-3.

Yeshiva seniors Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Aaron Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) concluded doubles play with an 8-6 victory over Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) in the second slot.

In singles competition, YU quickly took a 4-1 advantage with victories at fourth and sixth singles. The Maccabees clinched the 5-1 win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the third position.

The first, second and fifth singles matches remained unfinished.

Yeshiva will travel to top seeded Manhattanville for the Skyline Final on Saturday.
