Men's Tennis Posts Fifth-Straight Shutout, Tops Brooklyn

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team rounded out the non-conference portion of its regular-season schedule in strong fashion Wednesday night, as the Rams recorded their fifth-consecutive 9-0 victory by defeating visiting Brooklyn College.

The host Rams (8-5) lost just eight games across the three doubles matches to start the competition, with senior Matthew Olkhovetsky (Great Neck, N.Y.) and sophomore Ethan Cintron (Bayside, N.Y.) racing to an 8-1 decision in the No. 3 flight. Sophomore Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) and senior Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) registered an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 flight, while seniors Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) outlasted the Brooklyn (5-4) duo of Ryan Sham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Aymen Kuc (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the top flight by an 8-5 count.

Sabovic topped his No. 2 singles opponent by identical 6-0 scores, while Baker secured his straight-sets, top-flight match by identical 6-2 counts. Cintron and freshman Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) carded straight-set decisions by identical 6-4, 6-1 scores at the Nos. 3 and 6 positions, respectively, with Everett (third-set super tiebreaker) and senior Mario Contreras (Southold, N.Y.) taking home No. 4 and 5-flight decisions.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Farmingdale State side rounds out regular-season Skyline Conference play at home on Saturday, when it plays host to Senior Day ceremonies prior to its noon first serve against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
