Men's Tennis Shuts Out Purchase in Skyline Competition

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's tennis team won for the third time in its four spring outings thus far on Saturday afternoon, shutting out visiting Purchase College in a Skyline Conference tilt by a 9-0 score.

The Rams (3-3, 2-1 Skyline) swept through the three doubles matches against the Panthers (1-5, 0-2), with seniors Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Mario Contreras (Southold, N.Y.) first into the books with an 8-1 triumph at the No. 3 flight over Nikita Kordzielewska (Stepnica, Poland) and William Isidro (Monroe, N.Y.). FSC senior Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Ethan Cintron (Bayside, N.Y.) registered an 8-5 decision at No. 2 over Simon Montalvo (Valencia, Spain) and Frederick Kaden (Farmingdale, N.Y.), before the Rams' senior/sophomore duo of Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) completed the sweep at the top flight by an 8-6 count over Julian Szuper (New York, N.Y.) and Ben Joory (Pt. Washington, N.Y.).

In singles action, Everett (over Kaden) and freshman Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.; over Isidro) swept past their opponents at the Nos. 4 and 6 flights, respectively, before Sabovic toppled Joory at No. 2 by a 6-1, 6-0 count. Contreras took out Kordzielewska at No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-3 decision, with Waterhouse outlasting Montalvo at No. 3 with a 7-5, 7-6 victory coming after a 7-4 edge in the second-set tiebreaker. Szuper and Baker swapped the first two sets by 6-3 scores, before Baker won the super-tiebreaker third set by a 10-6 margin.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are back in Skyline action Wednesday afternoon (April 13), when it plays host to Manhattanville College in a rematch of last spring's Skyline Conference championship final. First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
