Yeshiva Edges Rams in Skyline Matchup

Yeshiva - 5, Farmingdale State - 4


Montclair, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team traveled to the Brookdale Park Tennis Center in Montclair, N.J. to play Skyline opponent Yeshiva on Tuesday evening and fell, 5-4.

The Maccabees (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) won two of three points in doubles competition. YU senior Aaron Cohen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and sophomore Akiva Ackerman (Cedarhurst, N.Y.) defeated FSC (2-3, 1-1 Skyline) freshmen Dylan Poblete-Infante (East Northport, N.Y.) and Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.), 8-1, in the third slot before Rams' seniors Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) took the #2 doubles match, 8-4, over Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Eitan Jeselsohn (Newton, Mass.).

At first doubles, Farmingdale State senior Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) were edged out in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3).

In singles play, Baker (6-4, 6-4) and Sabovic (6-3, 6-3) captured the #1 and #2 matches, respectively, while the Maccabees won in the third and fourth slots.

At #6 singles, FSC senior Mario Contreras (Southold, N.Y.) earned a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 come-from-behind victory to tie the score at 4-4.

Everett battled for the win in the fifth slot but fell to Jeselsohn, 5-7, 6-3, 4-6, as Yeshiva went on for the 5-4 win.

The men's tennis team next plays host to Skyline Conference opponent Purchase on Saturday, April 9th at 12:00 p.m.
