Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team traveled to St. Joseph's-Long Island for their Skyline Conference opener on Saturday afternoon and cruised to a 9-0 shutout victory.
At first doubles, Rams' (2-2, 1-0 Skyline) senior Matthew Waterhouse (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Alan Sabovic (Bohemia, N.Y.) earned an 8-1 win over SJC-LI's (0-3, 0-1 Skyline) William Vita (Bayport, N.Y.) and Cory Stengel (East Moriches, N.Y.).
In the second slot, seniors Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) won 8-0, while the third pairing of senior Michael Josefak (Oakdale, N.Y.) and junior Michael Baranowski (South Huntington, N.Y.) earned an 8-0 shutout win.
Farmingdale State captured the #1 singles match via retirement before sweeping the second through sixth spots for the 9-0 win.
Everett (6-0, 6-2), senior Mario Contreras (Southold, N.Y.) (6-2, 6-1), freshman Dylan Poblete-Infante (East Northport, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-0), freshman Vincent Manzi (Massapequa, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-0), and freshman Edward Kemp (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) (6-1, 6-1) each picked up singles victories for FSC.
The Rams will next travel to play Yeshiva in a Skyline Conference match on Tuesday, April 5th at 5:00 p.m.
