
#2 Farmingdale State - 5, #3 Purchase - 4
Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the completion of the Skyline Conference men's tennis semifinals this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y., #2 Farmingdale State defeated #3 Purchase, 5-4. FSC has now won 12 straight matches heading into the Skyline Finals.
The Rams (12-2) claimed 2-of-3 points in doubles competition. After falling in the first position, FSC senior Daniel Kafka (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and freshman Malik Bass (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) paired up for an 8-6 win in the second slot. At third doubles, Bradley Maslak (Middle Island, N.Y.) and Steven Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) defeated PC's (10-3) Finbar Stuart (Woodstock, N.Y.) and James Ham (Rye, N.Y.), 8-7 (7-5).
Farmingdale State freshman Mark Baker (North Baldwin, N.Y.) recorded at 6-3, 6-3 victory at first singles, while Kafka notched a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 win in the third position. Bass earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles as the Rams held off the Panthers.
FSC will now play either top-seeded Yeshiva or #4 Merchant Marine in the Skyline Conference Finals. The winner of that match receives the conference's automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.
