Elmira, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team opened the spring season this weekend at the Elmira Spring Kick Off, hosted by Elmira College. The Rams lost both matches on Friday, before bouncing back on Saturday against Alfred with a 6-3 win to closeout the tourney.
Against Elmira, Farmingdale State fell behind 3-0 in doubles play and saw a win at #1 singles by senior Kevin Palacios (Glen Cove, N.Y.), before falling in the match 8-1.
In the late Friday match against Purchase College, the Rams grabbed a 2-1 advantage in doubles play with wins in the second and third spots. Farmingdale State fell in tiebreaker singles matches in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions, picked up wins by Dan Baruch (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Patrick Madigan (Sayville, N.Y.) at #5 and #6, respectively, but would fall in the match, 5-4.
On Saturday against Alfred, the Rams were behind 2-1 after doubles but were able to win 5-of-6 singles matches en route to their first win.
Farmingdale State will travel next to York (N.Y.) on Saturday, March 19th for a non-conference match at 12:00 p.m.
