Middlebury, Vt. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team fell 5-2 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament to Drew University on Friday, May 10th at Middlebury College. The Rams finished the 2013 with a 12-2 overall record, while Drew advanced to the second round against Middlebury College on Saturday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m.
In doubles action, Farmingdale state went up 1-0 with a win at third doubles from junior Bradley Smith (Mineola, N.Y.) and junior Judd Bahoui (Long Beach, N.Y.). Bradley and Bahoui came from down 6-1 to take an 8-6 victory.
Drew tied it up 1-1 with an 8-4 win at first doubles over the Rams' tandem of sophomore Justin Vijungco (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and senior Ryan Musalo (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).
Farmingdale took the lead, 2-1, with a 9-7 win from senior Alex Bessarabov (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and junior Steven Ferrantello (Dix Hills, N.Y.).
In singles play, Drew won at #2, 3, 5 and 1 to earn the five points needed to take the NCAA victory while the other two singles matches went unfinished.
Bessarabov finishes his career at Farmingdale with school records of 43 singles wins (43-11, a .796 winning percentage) and 36 doubles wins (36-19, .655 win percentage).
Musalo finished with a winning percentage of .692, 18-8 overall in singles play and the 5th most wins at doubles (20).
