2009 Men's Tennis Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men’s tennis team, in just their second season as a Varsity program, finished the year with an outstanding 9-3 record and advanced to the Skyline Conference Championship, where they lost a close match 5-4 to St. Joseph’s College. The Rams entered the playoffs as the #2 seed with a 6-1 conference record and defeated #4 Bard College 5-0 in the semifinals to reach the finals.

Freshman Tom Johnsen had a very impressive rookie season, finishing with a perfect 10-0 singles record, competing as the #3 player for Coach Waterhouse’s team. Johnsen also went a combined 9-3 in doubles play.

Sophomore Chris Genzmann posted a 10-2 record from his #4 singles position and a 9-3 record playing on the #2 doubles team.

Senior Matt Kacmarczyk finished the year with an 9-3 record at #2 singles and an 8-4 record playing either #1 or #2 doubles.

#1 singles player and last year’s Skyline Rookie of the Year, Joe Passarella, posted a 6-4 record and finished 7-4 at first doubles.

Coach Waterhouse was named the Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, while Passarella was named First Team and Tom Johnsen and Matt Kazmarczyk were named to the Second Team.
