
Farmingdale State - 5, St. Joseph's-LI - 2
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team used goals from five different players in tonight's 5-2 Skyline Conference victory over St. Joseph's-LI. The Rams finished the regular season with an 8-3 mark in the Skyline (9-7 overall) and have clinched the #4 seed for the upcoming playoffs.
The Golden Eagles (7-10, 6-5) struck first 9:09 into the game on a Rayneri Ruiz (Brentwood, N.Y.) goal from 25 yards out. Only 20 seconds later, an unassisted score off a rebound by FSC freshman forward Carlos Rivera-Ronquillo (Huntington Station, N.Y.) evened the game at 1-1.
In the 31st minute, the Rams took a 2-1 advantage on Richard Mastrangelo III's (Dix Hills, N.Y.) shot from 15 yards out off the feed from Jovanni Parkinson (Wyandanch, N.Y.). With just 1.7 seconds remaining before halftime, Farmingdale State took a two-score lead on the breakaway goal by junior midfielder Flynn Shanahan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) off Christian Campos's (Huntington Station, N.Y.) long pass.
After St. Joe's-LI cut the deficit to 3-2 early in the second half, Campos regained the two-goal advantage for Farmingdale State with a goal in the 66th minute. Parkinson tallied the final score of the game in the 71st minute as the Rams earned the 5-2 victory.
FSC sophomore goalkeeper Lucas Mallia (Greenlawn, N.Y.) had eight saves, while senior Avery Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) stopped eight shots for the Golden Eagles.
In the upcoming playoffs, #4 Farmingdale State will have a rematch against #5 St. Joseph's-LI in the First Round on Saturday, October 29th at noon.
