Men's Lacrosse Has Nine All-Conference Selections; Varello Named Co-Offensive POY

COMPLETE ALL-SKYLINE CONFERENCE RELEASE

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's eight head men's lacrosse coaches have cast their ballots on the 2023 edition of the all-conference team, and Farmingdale State senior attack Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) was tabbed Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

In addition to Varello, senior defenseman Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) and junior face-off specialist Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) were named First Team All-Conference.

The Rams placed six on the Second Team as junior attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.), senior attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.), senior midfielders Jack Gilbride (East Moriches, N.Y.) and Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.), sophomore defender Christian Lembo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and sophomore goalkeeper Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) were each honored.

Varello finished the regular season as the Skyline's leader in conference play with 5.17 points per game. In just 15 games played, he tied a career-high with eight man-up goals – tied for tops in the Skyline – and ranked 36th nationally. Varello averaged 8.33 points per game over the final three games of the season, ranking No. 84 and 90 nationally in goals and points per game, respectively.

Kaminskey was the Skyline leader in face-off percentage (.635), face-offs won (238), ground balls (160) and GB's per game (9.41). He ranked 21st in the Nation for GB's per game and was 32nd for face-off percentage.

Luchetti led FSC with 34 caused turnovers this season, a total that ranks fifth all-time for a single season. He ranked second in the Skyline and was 82nd in the NCAA for caused turnovers per game (2.0).

Stock was the team leader and third in the conference with 73 points on 44 goals and 29 assists. His total ranks seventh for a single-season in program history.

Wandle ranked second on the team with 63 points (39g, 24a). He set the program record for most points, finishing his career with 208 on 127 goals (2nd all-time) and 81 assists (3rd all-time).

Gilbride posted 42 points in his only season with Farmingdale State. He ends his career with 132 career points between his time at St. Joe's-LI and FSC and was a three-time all-conference selection.

McMahon started every game from his midfield position, collecting 24 goals, 11 assists, 35 points, 46 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.

Lembo, who was named a team captain as a sophomore this year, ranked second on the team with 33 caused turnovers. He was third in the conference for CT's and was 97th in the NCAA for CT's per game (1.94).

Erler started 16-of-17 games in net and posted a conference-low 7.73 goals against average (8th in the Nation). He also tallied a Skyline-best .565 save percentage.
