Rams Earn Conference Victory Over Mount Saint Mary

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team defeated Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College, 16-5, on Thursday evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 10-2 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline, while the Knights dropped to 3-5, 1-1.

After each team scored just one goal in the first quarter, the Rams used an unassisted score by sophomore midfielder Steven DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y.) early in the second to take a 2-1 advantage.

MSMC's Xavier Rodriguez responded with a goal with 9:55 on the clock to tie the game at 2-2.

Only 34 seconds later, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Kyle Kolano (Babylon, N.Y.) scored to regain the one-goal lead, 3-2.

Each team scored once more prior to the break as FSC held a 4-3 halftime advantage.

The Rams came out quick in the third, scoring eight goals to take a 12-3 lead. Senior attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored on the Kolano feed before senior midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.) netted the pass from senior midfielder Jack Gilbride (East Moriches, N.Y.) to give FSC a 6-3 lead. Less than a minute later, DiCarlo set up junior attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) for a goal to go up by four.

Stock, DiCarlo, McMahon and senior attack Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) (x2) each added goals in the final 6:05 of the quarter to put Farmingdale State ahead by nine, 12-3.

Varello added a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter before freshman attack James Hickis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored from DiCarlo to go in front, 15-3.

McMahon added a goal down the stretch as Farmingdale State earned the 16-5 victory.

Varello registered a team-high four goals, to go along with one ground ball and a caused turnover. Stock (3g, 1a) and DiCarlo (2g, 2a, 4gb) had four points apiece, while McMahon finished with a hat trick. Wandle tallied two goals, an assist and three ground balls and Kolano produced a goal and an assist for two points. 

FSC senior Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) anchored the defense with four caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Senior defender Jonathan Flores (West Babylon, N.Y.) added two caused turnovers and three ground balls. 

Junior faceoff specialist Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) went 18-for-21 at the X with a game-high 11 ground balls.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made seven saves and improved to 9-2 on the season in the win.

Farmingdale State next heads to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to play defending Skyline Champion Maritime on Friday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m.
