Haggerty Scores Five Goals in Win at Hartwick

Hartwick, N.Y. - Farmingdale State senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals as the FSC men's lacrosse team earned a 9-7 non-conference victory at Hartwick on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improved to 3-0 on the year, while the Hawks dropped to 1-1.

Hartwick led 4-2 at the halftime break and scored two ealry third quarter goals to extend their advantage to four.

With 5:01 remaining in the third, FSC freshman attack Rob Varello (Smithtown, N.Y.) netted the pass from sophomore midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.) to close within three, 6-3, heading into the fourth.

McMahon came out quick in the fourth quarter, scoring a pair of unassisted goals in the first four minutes to cut the Farmingdale State deficit to just one, 6-5.

With 10:40 on the clock, Haggerty netted an unassisted goal to tie the score at 6-6.

Just 1:39 later, McMahon set up Haggerty for a man-up goal as the Rams took their first lead of the game, 7-6.

After another Haggerty goal put the Rams up by two, freshman midfielder Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff and scored to give FSC the 9-6 advantage.

Farmingdale State held the Hawks to just one goal in the final 7:30 as they earned the 9-7 come-from-behind victory.

Haggerty led FSC with his five goals and 14 shots, while McMahon notched four points on two goals and two assists, to go along with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Kaminskey finished 13-for-20 on faceoffs with 10 ground balls and a goal, the second of his career. 

Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) recorded a career-best 17 saves in net for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will host DeSales in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 9th at 5:00 p.m.
