#1 Maritime Edges Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference Championship

#1 Maritime - 13, #2 Farmingdale State - 12


Throggs Neck, N.Y. - #2 Farmingdale State fell to top-seeded Maritime, 13-12, in the Skyline Conference Men's Lacrosse Final this afternoon in Throggs Neck, N.Y. The Privateers trailed, 8-5, at the break and outscored FSC, 8-4, in the second half en route to the one-goal victory. Maritime remains undefeated at 8-0 this season and has earned the Conference's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The Rams (7-2) opened the game with three straight goals just over five minutes in. Sophomore attack Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) notched an unassisted goal before back-to-back goals by senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) put FSC on top, 3-0.

Maritime got on the board with 8:44 left in the first quarter as senior midfielder Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) recorded a goal.

Farmingdale State senior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff and set up freshman attack Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) for a goal just nine seconds later.

FSC led 4-2 and used goals from J McMahon and Haggerty to take a 6-2 advantage into the second quarter.

Stock would tally the first goal of the second before three straight Privateers goals cut their deficit to just two at 7-5.

Rams' senior midfielder Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored with 2:35 left on the clock to go up 8-5 at the break.

In the third quarter, Keegan recorded three straight goals to tie the score before teammate Patrick Schnell (Jericho, N.Y.) tallied a goal to put Maritime on top, 9-8.

The Privateers led by one, 10-9, after three quarters and extended their lead to 13-9 with three early fourth quarter goals.

With 7:43 remaining, Haggerty notched his fourth goal of the game to cut the deficit to three. Just 56 seconds later, a Wandle score closed the gap to two at 13-11.

With four minutes left to play, Haggerty scored another unassisted goal for FSC to close within one.

Maritime would win the next faceoff and use nearly the full 90 seconds before taking a shot that was saved by Farmingdale State junior Will DeCamp (Bay Shore, N.Y.).

The Rams cleared the ball and hit the post on their next shot attempt before MT picked up the ground ball with 1:58 on the clock.

FSC regained possession with a minute to play and would attempt two shots that soared high of the net.

Maritime forced a turnover with 20 seconds on the clock and ran out the clock to secure the 13-12 victory.

Haggerty scored a game-high five goals for FSC. McMahon had three points on a goal and two assists, to go along with eight ground balls and 10 faceoff wins. Stock and Wandle had three and two goals, respectively.

In goal, freshman Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) stopped 11-of-16 shots and DeCamp made 11 saves on 19 attempts.

Keegan and freshman attack Jack Louer (Clifton, N.J.) tallied four goals apiece in the victory for Maritime.
