Haggerty, McMahon Lead Farmingdale State to Home Victory Against USMMA

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State senior attack Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) scored six goals, while senior midfielder John McMahon (West Babylon, N.Y.) went 16-for-16 on faceoffs to lead the men's lacrosse team to a 17-7 win over Merchant Marine this evening. Haggerty's nine points in a single game ranks third all-time, while J McMahon's 16 ground balls sits at second all-time. With the win, FSC improved to 5-1 and secured home field advantage for the semifinals next week.

The Rams took an early 1-0 advantage after J McMahon won the opening faceoff and scored just 26 seconds in.

After an Antonio Kaminskey (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) faceoff win, freshman midfielder Hunter Lyons (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied a goal from junior midfielder Matt Sullivan (Stony Brook, N.Y.) to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.

Merchant Marine got on the board with 11:17 remaining in the first quarter as junior attack Matt Groom (Bethpage, N.Y.) notched a goal.

Leading 3-2 with seven minutes left in the first, Farmingdale State recorded four straight goals to go up, 7-2. Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Lyons, Jake Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and J McMahon each produced a goal.

FSC took an 8-3 advantage into the second quarter and scored seven seconds in to take a 9-3 lead.

The Mariners (3-2) cut their deficit to 9-5 with two goals in the final 4:26 of the half.

With 11:57 on the clock in the third quarter, Haggerty recorded three straight goals in just 47 seconds to put the Rams in front, 12-5.

After Merchant Marine answered with a pair of goals to cut the FSC lead to 12-7, C McMahon, J McMahon and Sullivan each tallied a goal to take a 15-7 lead.

C McMahon and Wandle each tallied a goal in the fourth quarter as Farmingdale State won, 17-7. The Rams defense held the Mariners scoreless over the final 23:04 of the game en route to the conference victory.

Haggerty finished with six goals, three assists, 17 shots and three ground balls, while J McMahon had three goals, one assist, nine shots, 16 ground balls and one caused turnover. C McMahon notched a season-high six points on three goals and three assists and Wandle registered two goals, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Lyons (2g, 1a) and Sullivan (1g, 2a) had three points apiece.

On defense, sophomore Jack Conklin (Wantagh, N.Y.) caused two turnovers with one ground ball, junior Jack Livingston (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up four ground balls and freshman Gino Luchetti (Farmingville, N.Y.) caused one turnover and had two ground balls.

Farmingdale State goalies Kevin Loonie (Lynbrook, N.Y.) (W, 4-1) and Will DeCamp (Bay Shore, N.Y.) stopped five and eight shots, respectively.

As a team, the Rams tallied five man-up scores, a total that hasn't been achieved since 2017 and ranks fourth all-time.

Farmingdale State next will host Skyline opponent Manhattanville on Friday, April 30th at 4:00 p.m. on senior day.
